From Mark Hollis
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
On behalf of Michigan State University, Spartan Athletics, our coaches and 25 athletic teams, thank you for your generous support of our program. Our student-athletes are the core of our Department and our expectations are that they will positively represent you and our University in the classroom, during preparation, and in competition. We strive to be the best in the Big Ten Conference, CCHA, and the nation in all that we do.
As we align ourselves with the educational mission of the University, the Mission and Core Values for MSU Athletics are clear:
- Our mission is to gather and engage our community to teach, support and celebrate our Student-Athletes in their quest for excellence.
- Our core values of Respect, Positive Attitude, Focus, Accountability, Continuous Improvement and Integrity will guide and govern all our actions and decision-making. They are the foundation that will ensure the continued success of our athletic program.
With this in mind, our Athletic Development office has warmly invited the friends of Michigan State University to become a part of our program and develop a relationship with our Department of Athletics. It has been their role to share our vision for excellence and to offer opportunities to invest in our Student-Athletes. We could not move forward without their tireless efforts, but more importantly, your generous support.
Managing our resources is one of our biggest challenges. Faced with increasing costs, such as scholarships and team travel, our Department strives toward entrepreneurial revenue sources. From a budget standpoint, Athletics operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit without funding from State government or the University’s general fund. At the same time, our operations directly support the mission of the University and have a positive impact on the economy of the University and the community.
As we move forward, we continue to invite and warmly welcome all members of the Michigan State University community to invest in the future of Spartan Athletics. As you learn of our vision and plans, we hope that you’ll discover the vital need for your on-going involvement. Your participation is truly making a difference in the lives of our Student-Athletes and the Michigan State family.
Thank you and Go State!
